When asked if anything caught their eye and captured their interest at the Mobile World Congress, Walt Mossberg and Katherine Boehert single out the INQ¹. Brilliant.

This is what the Global Mobile Awards judges had to say about the INQ¹:

Its approach to the deep integration of services such as Facebook outshines that of much costlier smartphones, and it presents a compelling proposition by treating the phonebook as the focal point of the device. With its ingenious ability to transform from phone to 3G modem by simply plugging it into your USB port, the INQ¹ delivers data services to the mass market and for an affordable price.”

Everyone wanted to check out the INQ¹, including the celebrities that were in town for the MWC.

“INQ’s Facebook-oriented and web-centric budget phone that I love so much, INQ Social Mobile, has won some major kudos at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. It was voted best mobile phone/device, beating out its much bigger and more established competitors such as Nokia and Samsung. INQ’s win is proof that any upstart that dares to be different can carve out a niche in the billion-phones-a-year business.”

Dare to be different indeed.

The INQ Bar has been rocking here at MWC, making it the place to be.  Even Will.i.am, frontman of the Black Eyed Peas, came by to check us out. 

Nothing is achieved in isolation. So when it comes to our award for Best Handset, there’s a collection of companies that played an instrumental role in helping make the INQ¹ such a successful reality.

Last night was awesome for INQ. We picked up the GSMA’s Global Mobile Award for “Best Mobile Handset or Device”.  This is the mobile industry’s most coveted and fiercely contested prize - so it is like winning the Oscar for Best Film. 

The INQ¹ won the award over four other shortlisted top-class contenders: the Nokia E71, T-mobile G1, BlackBerry Storm and LG KS360.

We’re really proud that the industry has recognized our effort to bring a new category of democratically priced devices to market that make internet communications easy to use.

Founder Frank Meehan (CEO) collected the prize together with co-founders Jeff Taylor (Marketing and Strategy Director) and Ken Johnstone (Products and Design Director).
